Botanical Pleasures - Poetry Workshop with Jennifer Harrison
SUN Sept 24th 2017 10 - 4pm
Workshop for the novice to the established poet to join in a celebration of flowers!
Over centuries, from the humblest to the exotic, plants have been great companions to poets. Their narrative has inspired a multitude of metaphors, motifs and themes in poetry. Join renowned poet Jennifer Harrison as she guides you through the poetry archives into a literary wonderland of plants. There’ll be time to write as you respond to a selection of the world’s foremost botanical art and scientific illustration, a chance for a new season of inspiration as you explore the garden. There will be a session investigating the research behind poems inspired by 19th century women who collected specimens for the botanist, Ferdinand Mueller. Under facilitation, participants will be prompted to creatively respond to flora so new work will be achieved on the day.
Spend a thought-provoking Sunday immersed in the lives of plants during Springtime’s high bloom on the Mornington Peninsula. This workshop is open to those endeared to plants - botany’s rich creative and scientific wealth.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided
