Writing the Unmentionable
Writing on deeply personal events is one way for a writer to reconcile their inner and outer world. For some, it may not be an obvious intention; for others, it’s a compulsion as truth becomes healer. When Sophia Rundgren visited us at Kalang Retreat, she read her moving soliloquy based on her early experiences with an eating disorder allowing some startling imagery to rattle the room as she spoke. Her visit was a reminder – remember when looking into the eyes of the young, don’t be surprised if you find resilience, strength that defies age. Sophia is now a joyful world traveller, and Australia offers different experiences to motivate her work.
